HOW TO TRANSITION YOUR SKINCARE FROM WINTER TO SPRING

With winter behind us, it’s time to retire your chunky sweater and heavy coats for breezy jackets and crisp shirts. You should also be lightening up and adjusting your skincare routine for the new season and warmer weather to come. Read on below for the tweaks we recommend.

    Focus on repair

The cold temperatures, biting winds, and drying indoor heat of winter can take its toll on your moisture barrier. When your moisture barrier is compromised and dehydrated, you can experience dryness, an overproduction of sebum, and sensitivity. To get your complexion back on track, we like to lather on restorative, gentle ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol and Deep Sea Water.

Swap your moisturizer for something a little lighter

Now that winter is over, you may be tempted to skip out on moisturizer. But every skin type should moisturize year round, you might just need to swap out a thick formula for a lighter one. Swap those balms and oils for a water-based formula when the weather warms up. Our Daily Moisturizer, which has a lightweight yet nourishing consistency that is ideal for the spring and summer. It contains Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate along with Centella Asiatica extract and Hyaluronic Acid, to help soothe, hydrate, and improve skin texture.

Get ahead of breakouts with regular exfoliation

The best way to treat breakouts is to prevent them from cropping up in the first place. Aside from cleansing thoroughly, one of your best forms of defense is exfoliating regularly to keep pores clear. Stay away from harsh scrubs and opt for gentle chemical exfoliants like PHAs (polyhydroxy acid). The Soothing Mist has gluconolactone, a PHA, that work by exfoliating dead skin cells on the surface, resulting in a more even skin tone and texture. It also helps skincare ingredients penetrate deeper into layers of your skin, thus boosting their efficacy.

    SPF. SPF. SPF.

We recommend wearing SPF year round, but if you were lax about it over the winter, spring is the time to get back into the habit of protecting your skin with SPF 30 or higher broad spectrum coverage. We know that finding the right formula can make or break one’s commitment to diligently wearing sunscreen. Our favorite mineral sunscreen is Dr. G Green Mild Up Sun SPF 50+, and a community favorite for a hybrid sunscreen is Krave Beauty The Beet Shield.

Marie-Kondo your skincare products and accessories

This is the most important piece of the puzzle. Throw out anything over six months old since you opened it. Old products can host a buildup of bacteria, leading to clogged pores and dull skin. Makeup brushes and sponges can also store unwanted germs and viruses. Give them a thorough washing with regular hand soap and dry them with a blow dryer.
